We’ve watched Tom Cruise take on the demanding role of Ethan Hawke for 27 years now. 27 good years! One would think the man is 32 years old with the increasingly insane stunts he pulls off in his movies, not just Mission Impossible. We all saw what he did with Top Gun: Maverick, one of the best, and nerve-wracking movies ever made. That man is 60 years old folks, 60 years old!
Well, he just seems to one-up himself with every movie because he’s done it again with the latest installment in the Mission Impossible franchise: Dead Reckoning Part One. We see the franchise return with more action than ever, with Ethan Hawke treading dangerous waters as he always does. But this time this mission might be too important and too “impossible” for him to complete without losing someone. The plot reads:
“Ethan Hunt and his IMF team embark on their dangerous mission to track down a terrifying weapon that threatens humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan’s past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious and powerful nemesis named Gabriel, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.”
The most eye-catching thing in the trailer is the clip of Ethan riding a motorcycle off a high cliff with a parachute. He literally rides it up the hill of a supposed mountain, and then right off of it before popping his parachute. He did that stunt in real life. He did not just do it on one take either, it took SIX takes! He did it six good times! Gods be good, that man is insane.
Whenever Tom Cruise is involved you know you’re getting quality. And as the franchise nears its end, it seems he is leaving it all out on the court for the final installments of the franchise. The plot thickens, the action rages, and the danger is at the highest point it’s ever been. Will Ethan Hawke and the gang be able to rise to the occasion and do what needs to be done? Find out on July 11 when Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning releases worldwide.
