Disney+’s new series American Born Chinese stars three of Everything Everywhere All at once key actors. Newly crowned Academy Award winners, Michelle Yeoh, and Ke Huy Quan alongside Academy Award nominee, Stephanie Hsu star in this stunning new action/comedy series.
Everything Everywhere All at once just recently hauled in multiple Academy Awards, and I need not remind you just how great the performances of the cast were. Well, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu are bringing the same energy, and more, into this new project. They star alongside Ben Wang, Yeo Yann Yann, Chin Han, Jim Lou, etc.
We have only gotten a little teaser of what to expect from the series, and it already looks like a banger. As far as I’m concerned, it already looks better than EEAAO. The fight scenes, the general VFX, and the storyline. It looks like a series that will build up a massive fan base as the years pass. The show is an adaptation of the 2006 graphic novel of the same name by Gene Luen Yang.
American Born Chinese follows Jin Wang who is struggling with his school life and home life. He meets a new foreign exchange student at his school, who then leads him to become involved in a battle between Gods of Chinese mythology.
There are also some things present in the show that I already love, and I’m sure many others too. The classic and nostalgic look and feel of the fight scenes. How they float in the air while doing specific moves or fighting. That unrealistic but satisfying feeling of watching these brings back memories of martial arts-based Asian movies of the past. It was present in Everything Everywhere All at once, and now the same goes for American Born Chinese.
The series will air exclusively on Disney+ come the 24th of May. I feel like we are about to witness, yet again, peak television and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
