According to Deadline’s Justin Kroll, there’s been a new update on the casting news for the actor who will don the Super Suit as Superman in the new DCU.
Since the events of Henry Cavill being let go as the actor for Superman, the biggest question in all of the comic book cinematic universe is: who will be the next Superman to lead the new DCU into the light that James Gunn and Peter Safran are building?
Well, we might be getting that answer in the coming months. With a release date set for July 2025, production set to start in 2024, and the movie already in early pre-production, it was only a matter of time till we got wind of news about who will be the next Kal El. According to Justin Kroll:
“So while I’m not sure on exact timing, when it comes to Superman, been told audition tapes are still being submitted and every rep who has a client that submitted one has been told that Gunn and Safran plan to watch everyone.”
For those who are not aware, James Gunn is currently promoting his final installment in the GOTG series, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. So, he’s been preoccupied with that and flying to different locations, so that would need to have been completed before he and Safran sit down and go through all the potential candidates for the role. Kroll says:
“Since Gunn has been knee-deep in the ‘GUARDIANS’ press tour and probably won’t watch any till after the movie opens, I’d say a decision will come closer to ComicCon. So when it comes to ‘favorites’ for the role, I’d tread lightly until we’re closer to the Fourth of July.”
San Diego’s ComicCon would be the best time to present their new Superman casting, as it is the biggest comic book fan event on the planet right now. Where better than ComicCon to announce the biggest Superhero of all time?
Wolfgang Novogratz and Harris Dickinson.
There have been a few front-runners for the role according to some rumors. Harris Dickinson has been sighted as one of them. He’s been in movies like The King’s Man, Maleficent, The Darkest Minds, and many others. He looks like a great fit but there’s also someone else a lot of fans are clamoring for consideration, Wolfgang Novogratz. He’s a personal favorite of mine. He has the height, the face, and the skill to pull off Clark Kent.
But as you know, DC Studios probably has many more candidates we don’t know about that could be much better fits than these two, all we can do is wait to see who is cast in the coming months.
