We’ve seen Zendaya shine both within and outside the MCU, and now with Spiderman 4 being delayed and in the works, a lot of people wondered about the next time they would see her on a screen. Well, think no further, she has one coming up very soon. The movie is called Challengers.
Zendaya, as usual, pulls out the brilliant acting we’ve come to identify her with, alongside her co-stars Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor who play Art and Patrick respectively.
The movie follows Tashi, a tennis player turned coach, who has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event — close to the lowest level of the tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend, and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
The drama surrounding this movie is nerve-wracking stuff. And we see Zendaya take on a role we are not quite familiar with. She’s the female of Archie who has to choose between Betty and Veronica in the early stages. And she does choose. She marries Patrick and a few years later Art and Patrick go up against each other in what is probably the most thrilling game they would ever play, and it feels like they are both fighting for the girl all over again.
Challengers will be released in cinemas on the 11th of August. You do not miss out on Zendaya movies, definitely not this type.
