Jennifer Lopez is a stone-cold assassin/mother in Netflix’s new “The Mother” movie

Jennifer Lopez is back on the big screen with a bang, literally, with her new movie: The Mother. The Mother is one of many movies that we got a glimpse of during Netflix’s Tudum announcement six months ago.

The movie is directed by Niki Caro, and produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Jennifer Lopez herself, among many others. The film stars Omari Hardwick, Lucy Paez, Gael Garcia Bernal, Joseph Fiennes, Paul Raci, Jesse Garcia, and Yvonne Senat Jones, among others.

The movie follows The Mother (Jennifer Lopez) an assassin who has to have no contact with her daughter because of her connection to certain people who could use her daughter to get to her. When her daughter, Zoe, is kidnapped a couple of years down the line, her mother will do everything in her power to protect her, including possibly burning down the whole world.

Production was halted back in 2019 when there was a COVID-19 outbreak within the cast. The movie would have been released much earlier but production had to be pushed back. Well, the movie is finally here, and it looks as good as a killer-mother-action/thriller movie can get. It reminds me of Halle Berry’s Kidnap movie, only this has miles more action and “badassery” than Halle’s movie. It is definitely worth the watch.

The Mother releases exclusively on Netflix on the 12th of May, 2023.
