Sony Pictures and Toei Animation’s new movie, Knights of the Zodiac, might be one of the best movies of the year and a banger at the box office too, even though it is an underdog.
Now, I say underdog because the movie isn’t getting enough attention as a regular high-end movie would. Although it is slowly racking up views for its new trailer it isn’t doing the numbers I think it deserves, even though it’s been out only a few days. “Underdog” is also the right term because multiple top-tier movies are coming out this year. From Transformers to Fast & Furious to John Wick, and many more throughout the course of the year. But Knights of the Zodiac might just be that surprise movie we didn’t know we needed.
The movie is a live-action adaptation of a popular anime series called Saint Seiya. The movie is directed by Tomek Baginski, and produced by Yoshi Ikezawa, Joseph Chou, and Tim Kwok. Knights of the Zodiac was made on a $60 million budget but it looks like a movie that less than $100 million was used for production. It has stunning graphics and great effects, with great fight scenes too. The movie stars Mackenyu, Famke Janssen, Madison Iseman, Diego Tinoco, Mark Dacascos, Nick Stahl, and Sean Bean, among others.
Sony’s Official plot synopsis goes:
“Produced by Toei Animation and based on the international anime sensation, Knights of the Zodiac brings the Saint Seiya saga to the big screen in live-action for the first time. Seiya (Mackenyu), a headstrong street teen, spends his time fighting for cash while he searches for his abducted sister. When one of his fights unwittingly taps into mystical powers he never knew he had, Seiya finds himself thrust into a world of warring saints, ancient magical training, and a reincarnated goddess who needs his protection. If he’s to survive, he will need to embrace his destiny and sacrifice everything to take his rightful place among the Knights of the Zodiac.”
This movie has so much potential and I can’t wait for it to be released. Knights of the Zodiac will be released in theatres worldwide on the 12th of May, 2023.
