Lionsgate’s new movie Joy Ride is peak comedy central

If there is one known fact about comedy, it is that you can never have enough or too much of it, and that is what Lionsgate is putting on the table for us here with its new Joy Ride movie.

Joyride stars Everything Everywhere All At Once’s Academy Award nominee, Stephanie Hsu, Emily in Paris’s Ashley Park, Shery Cola, and Sabrina Wu. The official synopsis goes:

“From the producers of Neighbors and the co-screenwriter of Crazy Rich Asians, JOY RIDE stars Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, Oscar® nominee Stephanie Hsu, and Sabrina Wu. The hilarious and unapologetically explicit story of identity and self-discovery centers on four unlikely friends who embark on a once-in-a-lifetime international adventure.

When Audrey’s (Ashley Park) business trip to Asia goes sideways, she enlists the aid of Lolo (Sherry Cola), her irreverent, childhood best friend who also happens to be a hot mess; Kat (Stephanie Hsu), her college friend turned Chinese soap star; and Deadeye (Sabrina Wu), Lolo’s eccentric cousin. Their no-holds-barred, epic experience becomes a journey of bonding, friendship, belonging, and wild debauchery that reveals the universal truth of what it means to know and love who you are.”

Joy Ride was produced by Seth Rogen and directed by Adele Lim. From the trailer, you can tell that the movie is full of golden comedy, and lots, and lots of drama. These four women put on an absolute show. And what’s even more satisfying, is to see four women of color display excellence because that is simply what I see in this movie.

Joy Ride releases around the world in theatres on the 7th of July 2023. I don’t think this one you want to miss folks.
