The numbers were always going to be good but the opening weekend for Spider-man: Across The Spider-verse was a great turnout.
Bringing in about $208.6 million globally and $120.5 million plus, with a movie budget of just $100 million is absolutely insane. With these numbers, the movie is now in the top highest-grossing movies on the first weekend globally for 2023. The movie also officially has the biggest domestic opening weekend of 2023. The movie is also doing this while competing with some of the biggest movies of the year with Vin Diesel’s Fast X, Halle Bailey’s The Little Mermaid, James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy, Super Mario Bro., and many others.
The Flash and Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts also come out in a few days. It’ll be interesting to see how all these movies do compete against themselves, because even though different movies have different target markets (some of these have a similar target market) at the end of the day it’s movie against the movie, and different fans decide regularly whether to choose one or two of these movies that they want to watch, and they forget about the rest and watch when they come out on digital. That’s how the world of cinema works.
Whether or not Spider-man: Across The Spider-verse can reach the billion-dollar mark is only something that the next couple of weeks will show. But right now, it’s doing fantastic numbers and looks to make at least seven times its movie budget.
