Earlier today, Netflix released the first official teaser for Season 3 of The Witcher, and there has never been a better time to be a Witcher Fan, but at the same time, it is also a sad one.
Henry Cavill has worn the white hair of Geralt for the last time. He announced a while back that he was leaving the Witcher Universe because of some disagreements he had with the directors. He wanted to stay true to the source material as a lifelong fan of The Witcher, but they had other plans.
But he is not leaving us empty-handed. And from the looks of the teaser he is about to put on one hell of a performance in Season 3. He will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth for season 4 but nobody wants to watch that (including me), hence the “final season” of The Witcher.
Now, let’s get to Season 3 because things are about to get crazy. The teaser opens up with Geralt taking some of his Witcher elixirs, pulling out his sword, and saying:
“Now, for the first time, I understand real fear.”
If you’ve watched the show up until now, you know that Geralt isn’t scared by much, if anything at all. For him to say these words, it means something big is coming. We got introduced to The Wild Hunt at the end of Season 2, who are elves who want to tap into the powers and Elder bloodline of Ciri. Her bloodline consists of the Mutagen used to create the first Witchers. For a bit of familiarity, you can liken them to the dead kings (The Nagzul) used by Sauron to fight Galadriel and Elrond in The Lord of The Rings. But these guys look a whole lot worse.
Ciri will also continue to play a large part in this new season, as we find out that she could essentially cause the apocalypse. We also saw some of her new powers as she was able to open doorways and release monsters from other worlds/realms when she was possessed. Yennifer also has her powers back and looks as badass as ever.
Another shocker we got (for those who aren’t familiar with the games and only just started watching the series) is the resurfacing of the Emperor, Emhyr, who is Ciri’s real father. It will be exciting to see how things develop with both of them as the season goes along. It is hard to tell whether the big bad of season 3 is The Wild Hunt or the blurred-out human figure Geralt was about to face in the first scenes of the teaser, but one thing is certain; you CANNOT miss season 3! It’s going to be one hell of a ride.
Season 3 has two release dates. Volume 1 will be released on June 29, and Volume 2 will be released on July 27. The Witcher season 3 will be streaming exclusively on Netflix. Don’t miss it.
