Ever since the slate for the new and improved DCU came out, one of the many movies and series stands out. And as you guessed, it has something to do with Superman. Superman: Legacy will be the first movie to open up the DC Universe and is being written by James Gunn amongst some others.
For a while now, it’s been a largely asked question – who is going to direct the Superman: Legacy movie? Well, we now have our answer. James Gunn himself has now confirmed, in an official statement across different social media platforms, that he will be directing the Superman: Legacy movie. His statement reads:
“Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025.”
A large number of DC fans are quite excited to see him take charge of the project, and who better to do the job than him? Given his track record of success with his movies, I have no doubt that he will do justice to Superman. We have seen the success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and 2. The final installment will also be released this year, and it is shaping up to be an absolute banger too. The Suicide Squad was a good movie too, and I don’t need to tell you just how successful the Peacemaker was.
Another factor that pushes me to believe that he is the right man for the job, is the fact that James is a comic book faithful himself. He read and loved Superman as a kid, so he knows what the fans expect to see in a Superman movie. He also posted this on his social media accounts:
Leaving us to believe that he indeed has been watching great Superman movies from the past to study their successes and their failures. James Gunn and his team at DC are going into this project as prepared as they can get.
But while it is exciting that he is now in charge of the project, this news holds a bigger, underlying meaning for the whole DC Universe. This will be the first movie to take place in the newly rebooted DCU. James Gunn and Peter Safran have come under fire from some fans (I like to call them snyderbots, at least the majority of them) about Henry Cavill not being cast as Superman in the new universe. James Gunn’s writing and directing of this movie is sort of a screening or test, if you will, to see what James and the gang can do in the new universe, especially with Superman.
These fake fans (as I also like to call them), who care more about the actor playing the role than the universe itself, will be out for blood and will love to see this movie fail. So James Gunn and his team have to come out with a bang on this one. There will be people seated when the movie drops just to see how badly the movie could fail, and laugh at the efforts of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
I’ll tell you something though, I love James Gunn’s attitude towards these fans, how mentally tough he is, and how he lets his work and his actions speak for him. He seems to me like the kinda guy who can produce a masterpiece under pressure, as he has shown time and time again.
He is also doing this in honor of his dad, whose birthday falls on the same day as the release of the movie. Something he said he wasn’t even aware of when the date was being fixed.
I believe in James Gunn and his writing and directing of Superman: Legacy. Come the 11th of July, 2025 the movie will be released for the world to see, and I will be seated ready to fall in love with one of the many characters that gave me so much joy to read and watch as a child.
