When news dropped about a Barbie movie in development people wondered what direction the movie would go. Whether it would go for the traditional Barbie story style or if it would go dark like most adaptations and remakes have been made in recent times. Well, we know now that it isn’t some story that turns dark or horrific as the movie unravels, at least for now.
The newest trailer that dropped on multiple platforms a few hours ago gave us a really good look into what we could expect from the movie as far as the plot goes. The movie won’t follow the traditional Barbie storyline type or go towards the dark appeal.
The trailer sees Margot Robbie’s Barbie start to act out of character, with a couple of things not going the way they should go as far as she is concerned. Things like her falling off her roof, getting cold showers, walking flat-footed instead of on her heels, and saying some out-of-character things like asking her friends if they “ever think about dying”.
She goes to meet a woman who looks somewhat like her Fairy-Godmother (for lack of a better description) who tells her that the solution to her problem would be to go to the real world. She needs to choose between continuing to live her current life or finding out the truth of the universe.
She goes to see the real world with her boyfriend Ken. They get to the real world and quickly attract attention as people figure out that she is actually Barbie. It all comes down to a particular man who thinks it would be catastrophic for people to know and see Barbie in the real world. It seems the movie will be about Barbie and Ken finding out all they need to know about the real world while being on the run from this “evil” man who wants to send them back to their world.
In other news, the artists who will be part of the movie’s soundtrack/album have been announced. They include Dua Lipa, Ice Spice, FIFTY FIFTY, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, PinkPantheress, Karol G, Kali, Ava Max, Ryan Gosling, Tame Impala, The Kid Laroi, and some more that will be announced in time.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie releases on the 20th of July.
