When news of the new DCU being an interconnected universe between live-action, animation, and games, fans couldn’t wait to find out what the first casting for any DC project would look like. Now, we finally do and you can leave it to James Gunn to drop a banger on us. The actors are nothing but perfect.
Find out all the confirmed cast for the upcoming Creature Commandos animated series.
A couple of hours ago, the news of the list dropped, and it confirmed Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Snr, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Indira Varma as The Bride, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorous, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Sean Gunn as GI Robot and The Weasel, Steve Agee as John Economous, and Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky.
You might know Frank Grillo from multiple movies, and he also played the role of Crossbones in the MCU in different movies. He is guaranteed to do a great job as Rick Flag Snr. David Harbour might be my favorite casting from this list. He is popularly known for his role as Hopper in Stranger Things, and the Red Guardian in Black Widow.
I don’t think I need to remind you about Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand, Oberyn’s lover, and mother of his bastard daughters in Game of Thrones. She plays Frankestein’s Bride, and her character will spearhead the show as James Gunn previously announced. Sean Gunn reprises his role as The Weasel from The Suicide Squad, while also voicing G.I Robot.
Steve Agee plays John Economous who Amanda Waller trusts. He reports to her, and it seems like he is going to be in charge of the Creature Commandos for this animated series. The Commandos originally take orders from Waller, but John will be there with them to supervise the team. Maria Bakalova is of Bulgarian origin and a great actress in her own respect. She’s won multiple awards and has the talent required to do justice to Princess Ilana.
Alan Tudyk is another great actor who even has animated projects under his belt in the last couple of years. Moana and Encanto. So he’s not new to the voice acting experience. Zoe Chao is another great ick-up with Nina Mazursky. Seeing live-action versions of these characters in the future is something to be excited about, as James Gunn also confirmed that some of the characters have already been included in live-action movies/series plans
The Creature Commandos are a vital part of Chapter 1’s God and Monsters, and James Gunn himself has written episodes for the animated series and will be directing all of the primary actors’ initial recordings so that they can get the voices right. We are all aware of James’s ability to turn unknown characters into household names. A great, and pretty recent example is his MCU movie trilogy, Guardians of the Galaxy. And with casting like this, the DCU is already off to a great start.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are cooking up something amazing for us with the new DCU, and this is just the beginning. It’s an exciting time to be a DC fan, and there are only more great things to come.
